This free webinar series brings together professionals, scholars, business executives, and individuals to discuss about the most recent developments and difficulties in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). These speakers tackle important issues like machine learning advancements, ethical AI, and applications of AI in a range of industries, including healthcare, finance, industry 4.0, sustainability, and logistics. 


About the Speaker:

Prof Dr Ute Schmid holds the Chair of Cognitive Systems at the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg. She has been teaching and researching in the field of AI for more than 20 years. Ute Schmid is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) and a member of the Bavarian AI Council. She heads the Technologies and Data Science working group at the Plattform Lernende Systeme and the AI in Schools working group of the AI department of the Gesellschaft für Informatik. Ute Schmid is a EurAI Fellow and GI Fellow. She was awarded the Rainer Markgraf Prize in 2020 for her commitment to knowledge transfer, particularly in the field of AI.


About the Talk:

The development of powerful, data-intensive machine learning methods is leading to a wide range of new possibilities for using AI systems in a wide variety of application areas. However, for practical applications, especially in safety-critical areas, it must be ensured that AI systems are trustworthy. The talk will first provide an introduction to the research field of AI and present how deep learning and generative AI approaches work. The criteria proposed by the EU for assessing the trustworthiness of AI systems will then be explained and illustrated and discussed using practical examples.
